So, recently I have noticed myself being less and less happy, and losing all pleasure in anything I used to find interesting. Driving has lost any interest, and just giving me anxiety. So I went to a new head doctor, as it turns out, I'm bipolar and not just affected by general depressive disorder. This means new meds and more care. I've also been told to try more things, and watch what I do for dangerous activity. This is all just weird, but I'm hoping to write more, and try to find the joy in cars again.

Good luck with everything. Find what works for you and do your thing.

I've still been working my depression and meds, but I'm glad I did. I forgot what it was like to feel decent.

Feeling even just decent again is the goal. Tired of being at the whim of my brain

My shrink has said to me many times ... there are dozens of different meds, and you have to find the right one or combination. For me it's Wellbutrin - for a while with a dash of Prozac, but I weaned off that. If something doesn't work, try another - just do it safely under the supervision of a pro.

Thank you! And I grew up in a very mental health positive home, so getting help has always been an option for me

Yeah, not doing it under supervision was ultimately what lost me a friend to his own disease, so I am always super careful

Yeah the brain is a bastard. I couldn't get out of my own head for such a long time.

That's awesome.

I personally did not. My maternal family has deep rooted mental health issues (severe bipolar disorders & schizophrenia), which I only found out about recently. It was all just kind of swept under the rug.

Try branching out and look for a new hobby... or create a personal project. eg. make a painting or a chair, etc. Set a goal for your project and you'll feel like you accomplished something and feel good when you finish it.

Luckily my parents and my dad's parents understand, but my moms mother is sort of in denial about her own issues

That shit is heavy man. Got diagnosed bipolar just about a year ago, after lots of screwing around with diagnosis like anxiety, adhd, regular depression, etc., the meds for which did nothing at all for me.

In my case though, it's been almost a relief, to know what I'm up against and to know it's something that a lot of really amazing people haves lived and achieved with. Which isn't to say it's easy. Just lost another job to my brain, even on lithium and limigtal.

Idk what I'm trying to say. Be glad you have something to fight, an actual disease that isn't just something you're imagining. And be proud of your special brain. And know oppo is here for you.

Oh and read this. This always makes me smile.

Glad you're getting help and talking about it. My mom is bipolar, and went through some very dark time in her life, but is in a good place now thanks to her medication. Hope your new doctor helps you to get "level" and you find the joy in the things you love again.
